DEALING WITH FAILURE

As an absentee voter, I have exercised my freedom to suffrage when I casted my vote a month earlier for May 9, 2022 election.  This is for Philippines national election that is crucial because it will define the current situation in the country.  Will it continue the six years of Filipino divisiveness and the prevailing political climate or will it change into a 360 degree turnaround?

I have been in several elections but this is my most painful election lost.  Just hours after the canvassing, a clear result has figured out by a landslide victory of the other candidates.  I have lost two presidentiables since 1992 when I voted Miriam Defensor-Santiago and now 2022 Leni Robredo.  Since 2016, I have already invested so much emotion in raising my stand. With extensive massive disinformation and misinformation, harassment on the oppositions, and exaltation of those in power, I dedicated myself siding with the values and truth that taught to us.  And for this election, I am just practically hungry of a clean government.  I am just fed up getting tired for another six years of conceit, vanity, lies, and morality disparity of the people.

It’s a painful defeat because this is an opportunity to have a once in a generation candidate.  Here is an ideal candidate that is clean, pro-active, with a fine record of public service, no taint of corruption, and no political dynasty.  Despite those mockeries in political campaign by opponent, are they still that kind to be blessed to win?  Despite the clear blasphemy and ridicules to the words of God, will they still succeed?  Painful because people are not yet ready to have this kind of leader, painful because people are not smart and matured when it comes to politics and painful because people have really forgotten history.  I wanted to convince myself that maybe they were the majority and maybe we were just a few. I hope we’re wrong and maybe they’re the right.  Maybe it may really have to happen, but it is tiring.  It’s very difficult to love the Philippines.

Little knowledge is dangerous. With the turnout of the election as a result of rampant disinformation, it is really alarming.  I am praying that Filipinos will go up from study made on 2017 as lowest among South-East Asian countries when it comes to IQ, reading comprehension and social awareness, which obviously translated as propaganda brainwashed voters.  My hope for the Philippines is that the presumptive winner makes the country great in return of the mistakes that the family did in the past.  I am hoping that this is a different Marcos.  But my fear for the country is that they might change the facts to clean their name and strengthen themselves to stay in power.  And with the people backing him up, what I fear for the country might be a more graft and more corrupt government.

I failed but I am glad that I fought what is right.  I am proud of myself that I stood for the good and decency.  My sense of right and wrong is clean.  I did the right thing.  To deal with the failure, I just need to live with respect of opinion byword.  It’s hard to be unconcerned to what around you but in order to move on, I have to clear my space by keeping away from the toxic social media and semi-hibernate from politics.  Right now, I am in the process of detoxing.  I have to jump into the bandwagon of cancel culture.  For me, this is the kind of cancel culture that nothing wrong because if it is becoming toxic, you need cure by breathing fresh air away from unhealthy environment.  But never stop here, never give up and soon stand as needed.
