MAKING A CHAMPION

Our first comprehension when we have heard the word champion, we always think of a person who has won in a competition.  A winner who has defeated all opponents in a contest be it in sports, arts, science or even in quiz bee is called champion.   However, true champions are not always about winning in competitions only but it is about with the most spirit as well.  It doesn’t always need to be the strongest, fastest, and the best but it is also about how you accomplished the role you played in the competition.  Similarly, being a champion is not only in competition but can be also in other field of interests like in career, relationships, leadership, social works or even in personal character.

Michael J. Gelb, a bestselling author, motivational speaker, consultant and a world’s leading authority on the application of genius thinking to personal and organizational development, says that “Champions know that success is inevitable; that there is no such thing as failure, only feedback.  They know that the best way to forecast the future is to create it.”  Gelb is a pioneer in the fields of creative thinking, accelerated learning and innovative leadership.   In addition, Gelb said that "... by stretching yourself beyond your perceived level of confidence you accelerate your development of competence."

Reading the quotes between the lines, I have come up in a comprehension that everyone is a born-champion because we are all capable to win in our own battle.  We are natural learner – from the moment we breathe in the womb, everyone has already the natural instinct of their own.  No one coached us while in womb but we were able to live there for long nine months.  As we already have our potential to become winner, we just need to release that champion-spirit to come it out.  It conforms as the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Penaflorida said “Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need.”  It is just a matter of waiting to unleash the hero in ourselves.

Making a champion, or hero for that matter, is honing your craft by finding the best potentials and the most possible in you.  A first runner up or say the fourth runner up is a champion indeed when he received his place out of his best – it is just a matter of luck.  When you hit the target sale though did not reach to be the biggest, you are a step higher to corporate ladder.  Because that means you strived hard and did extra pushed to achieve your goal and fulfilled your passion in work.  That is the very idea of making a champion in the person of you.

The integral characteristic of being a champion is the will to win.  In your passion to succeed, your imaginative mind will work to visualize creatively and lead innovation.  In these days of stiff competition and fast-paced world where so many things have been invented and introduced, you have to be more creative to stand out.   Let the unique creativity flow out from your points of view and polish your potentials.  Be observant and challenge yourself – accelerate your learning process and never stop learning.  If maybe uniqueness is obscured in you, clarify then your vision, mission and strategy – it is in this way you can still be a champion if you will define your advantages and strength.
