MENTAL HEALTH DURING PANDEMIC

While we are trying to beat COVID-19, there are many people who are undergoing mental health crisis such as fear, panic attack, anxiety disorder and depression.  There is feeling of hopeless and the morale of the people is very low.  Some of our family and friends may experience great sadness during this pandemic and the main reasons are the uncertainty and fear.  While staying in your house for the whole day for a period of weeks, you can move around your house and you can do all what you can do.  Doing this every day, you will get fed-up and you will feel bored, and you cannot get rid of it.  When boredom strikes, this is the time you can think a lot of negative things around you.  You know there is pandemic.  It stopped the world, changed our daily life, and brought us many uncertainties and fears.  And then here the fear comes.

There is no cure on the virus, there is no even vaccine to control it, we cannot contain it, and we are in danger.  With these, you really cannot help but to get afraid and ask yourself what will happen to you.  There are many questions surrounding your confused mind like what will happen to your job, how will you pay your bills, bank loan, and other dues?  When will it end, what will happen to your small savings, can you still do your plan to buy furniture for your house?  And you will feel worried for your money to run out.  How about your family and friends, can they cope-up with the situation, what job will they get, how much money do they have, can they survive this, how will they eat?  What will happen to the study of children?  There are many negative thoughts playing on your mind like death of someone, bankruptcy, global recession, mass layout, famine, illness, and any of these can happen to one of your close persons that surely you will feel bad.  And you look the world is blue, you feel people are seemed to look sad, and then it makes you feel sad too.  All of these are fear that becomes bigger than you.

The present situation not only makes you fear now but also what will happen soon, and this is mental torture.  You are nervous because you are in danger and it really feels you helpless and hopeless.  And here will come the panic attack, anxiety disorder, and even depression.  All of them can lead you to nervous breakdown.  It is very difficult to deal because it is in your own mind.  It is you versus you trying to forget pandemic sadness and fear you are undergoing.   You have doubts, cannot trust yourself, and you are losing your faith if you can go back to where you were before.

Panic attack and anxiety disorder make you afraid every now and then.  It gives you the involuntary feeling of heart palpitation because of fear.  Some people do not know why while some people are fortunate to know the reasons.  But either way, the fear is very difficult to set aside because it is yourself amid of confusion to do it.  For people who are not experiencing it, It is so easy to say don’t think about this fear but the truth, it is not as easy when people say it.  Yes, it is not easy to beat but you can.  You feel sad and fear at the same time then watch funny clips.  If you don’t have access in internet and free television then walk around or do some workout.  Fight the giants of fear, anxiety and worry.  You can find ways, you have initiative, the options, and you can be innovative.  You just need to discover them.

In these pandemic and COVID-19 scare, instill in your mind that everything in this world, no matter how bad or how nonsense it is, there is good part you can get from it.  You will say it’s ridiculous, inappropriate and impossible if I will say there is still good side of this pandemic.  Look its silver lining by taking the good lessons and inspiring story out of it.  Put that in your heart.  We are here now and nothing we can do about it so learn how to turn lemon into lemonade.  Through this pandemic maybe we can write a song or poem, paint a masterpiece, make the situation an inspiration to create something, reach out people, or improve yourself.  Take this free moment to do what you wish to accomplish that you have taken for granted when you were so occupied with the worldly things.  Or take this chance to get closer to God and this is the perfect time to have solid relationship with our Creator.
